
In Your Space was set up on July 23rd 1999 two months after I left university. To be honest, I didn't really know what I was doing. I knew I needed somewhere to work and some money to survive. I moved back home, borrowed a 1000 pounds from my grandma and a 1000 from my Mum. I am very proud to say that is the only money we have ever borrowed (and yes, I did pay them back, and no, I don't still live at home!).
The business grew steadily over the years and we introduced new formats to the UK's media landscape. We took these formats internationally and it puts a smile on my face to know that we have worked in 12 countries across Europe and have an office in Sydney that has been open nearly 4 years. Not a bad effort considering the company was built on an "I wonder if..." of a university graduate that didn't even know what a media agency was.
The business has consistently done well over the years (it could have done a lot better), continued to grow and we have made quite a bit of money along the way. That's why I decided to combine my business activities with proactively helping charities in the UK and abroad. I now pledge 20% of our annual profits to help good causes. The more successful we are as a business, the more our success helps others. We may be small when compared to some of the media big boys, but I have no shareholder dividends to pay out so why not?
We also want to do some good for the media industry and have a good time. Along the way I have acquired a suite at The 02 arena. If you've ever been out with us on a night there, then you probably had fun. Well, I want to do more of that too.
Outside of work I also compete in Ironman triathlons, enjoy open water swimming and having a pint in the pub. I am always looking for new ideas, new charities to support, new clients to help, so please get in touch with any of your thoughts. My email is jbramley@inyourspace.co.uk.
